Understanding Dyslexia

We are different learners, not slow learners.

Is Dyslexia a sign of low intelligence?
Dyslexia is not caused by problems with intelligence, hearing, or vision. People with dyslexia may struggle with reading comprehension and other language-related skills such as writing and spelling. Many individuals with dyslexia are highly intelligent and often excel in creative and problem-solving fields.
Is Dyslexia a sign of illness?
Dyslexia is not an illness that can be cured by medicine, however, early assessment and intervention can significantly improve outcomes. Dyslexia can be hereditary, and specific genetic factors may increase the likelihood of developing the condition. Effective support, such as specialized education programs and emotional support, is crucial for helping individuals with dyslexia succeed academically and personally.
How can Dyslexia Kenya help me?
At Dyslexia Organisation Kenya (DOK), we aim to provide the resources, support, and advocacy needed to ensure that individuals with dyslexia receive the right interventions. We believe that every learner deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their learning style. If you or someone you know might be struggling with dyslexia, reach out to us for guidance on assessments, resources, and support strategies.
